Etsy Fee & Profit Calculator (2026)

Etsy's fees look small one at a time, but they stack up. A listing fee here, a transaction fee there, payment processing, maybe an Offsite Ads fee, and suddenly a $25 sale leaves you with a lot less than you expected. This free calculator shows every fee on a sale, what you actually keep after your costs, and the price you'd need to charge to hit the profit margin you want.

How to use the calculator

  1. Pick where your bank account is. Payment processing fees depend on your bank's country, not where your buyer lives. Choosing a country fills in the right rates. If yours isn't listed, choose "Other" and type your rates in.
  2. Enter the sale. Add your item price, how many items were in the order, and what you charged the buyer for shipping.
  3. Enter your costs. Materials and labour are per item. Shipping label and packaging are per order.
  4. Tick the extras that apply. Turn on Offsite Ads if the sale came from one of Etsy's off-site ads, and currency conversion if your listing currency is different from your bank currency.
  5. Set a target margin. The calculator works out the item price you'd need to reach it.

Everything updates as you type.

The Etsy fees, explained

  • Listing fee: $0.20 USD per item. Charged when you list and again each time an item sells or auto-renews. If your bank isn't in USD, it's converted (about CA$0.28).
  • Transaction fee: 6.5%. Charged on the item price plus the shipping you charge, plus gift wrap if you offer it. This is why "free shipping" doesn't save you fees: the cost just moves into your item price.
  • Payment processing fee. A percentage plus a flat fee per order: 3% + $0.25 in the US, 3% + CA$0.25 in Canada (4% for international orders), 4% + £0.20 in the UK, and 3% + A$0.25 in Australia (4% for international orders). It's charged on the full order including shipping and sales tax.
  • Regulatory operating fee. Sellers in some countries pay a small extra fee on item price plus shipping: 0.50% in Canada and 0.48% in the UK, for example.
  • Offsite Ads fee: 15% or 12%. Only charged when a sale comes from an Etsy ad on Google, social media or another site. It's 15% for most shops and 12% once you've made over $10,000 USD in a year, and it's capped at $100 USD per order.
  • Currency conversion: 2.5%. Applies when your listings are in a different currency from your payment account.
  • Etsy Ads. Not a fee as such, but if you run on-site ads, divide your ad spend by your sales and enter it as "ad spend per sale" to see the true cost.

Selling on Etsy from Canada

  • List in CAD if you can. If your Canadian bank account is your payout account and you list in USD, Etsy converts each sale to CAD and charges a 2.5% currency conversion fee. Listing in CAD avoids it. Buyers still see prices in their own currency.
  • Payouts go to your Canadian bank in CAD, and your fees show in CAD in your payment account. The listing fee is billed as $0.20 USD and converted, so it's about CA$0.28.
  • Processing is 3% + CA$0.25 for Canadian and US orders, and 4% + CA$0.25 for other international orders. There's also a 0.5% regulatory operating fee on the item price plus shipping.
  • GST/HST on your fees. Etsy charges GST/HST on seller fees at your province's rate (13% HST in Ontario). If you're not GST/HST registered and Etsy already collected GST/HST from a Canadian buyer, the transaction and processing fees on that order aren't taxed. Listing, Etsy Ads and Offsite Ads fees are always taxed. If you're registered, you can usually claim the tax back as an input tax credit.
  • The Offsite Ads cap is $100 USD per order, about CA$142 at October 2026 exchange rates.

The calculator's Canada options handle all of this: pick your listing currency, set the exchange rate, and switch on GST/HST on fees for your province.

A worked example

A US seller sells one print for $25 with $5 shipping. Materials cost $6, the label $5 and packaging $1.

  • Listing fee: $0.20
  • Transaction fee (6.5% of $30): $1.95
  • Payment processing (3% of $30 + $0.25): $1.15
  • Total Etsy fees: $3.30
  • After $12 in costs, net profit is $14.70, a 49% margin.

If that same sale came through Offsite Ads at 15%, you'd pay another $4.50 and your profit would fall to $10.20. That's why it's worth pricing with Offsite Ads in mind once your shop passes $10,000 in sales and they become mandatory.

Tips to keep more of each sale

  • Price for your worst case. If Offsite Ads can apply, make sure the item is still profitable at 15%.
  • Count your time. Even a small labour figure shows whether a product is worth making.
  • Bundle items. The flat processing fee is charged once per order, so multi-item orders keep more per item.
  • Check your shipping. Undercharging for shipping eats into profit fast, and you still pay fees on what you do charge.

FAQ

How much does Etsy take from a sale?

For a typical US sale without Offsite Ads, roughly 10–11% of the order total plus $0.45 (listing fee and the flat processing fee). Offsite Ads can add another 12–15%.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The transaction fee, processing fee and any regulatory fee are all charged on shipping as well as on the item price.

Are Etsy fees different in Canada?

Processing is 3% + CA$0.25 for Canadian and US orders and 4% + CA$0.25 for other international orders. There's also a 0.50% regulatory operating fee, and the $0.20 USD listing fee is converted to CAD.

Can I opt out of Offsite Ads?

Yes, as long as your shop has made less than $10,000 USD in the past 12 months. After that, you're in automatically at the 12% rate.

Should I list in CAD or USD as a Canadian seller?

Usually in CAD. If your listings are in USD and your bank is in CAD, Etsy charges a 2.5% currency conversion fee on every sale.

Does Etsy charge HST on its fees in Ontario?

Yes, 13% HST on seller fees. If you're not registered and Etsy already collected tax from the Canadian buyer, the transaction and processing fees on that order aren't taxed.

Does the calculator include sales tax or VAT?

Only if you enter it. Etsy collects and pays sales tax in many places, but processing fees are charged on the total including tax, so enter the tax amount to include it. GST/HST on fees is an optional Canada setting; VAT on fees elsewhere isn't included.
