How to Check Where Your Etsy Listings Actually Rank
If you have ever searched Etsy for your own product and thought “great, I am on page 1,” I have bad news: that search was lying to you. Etsy personalizes results, which means what you see logged into your own account is not what shoppers see. Here is how to check your real ranking.
Why your own search does not count
Etsy tailors search results based on who is looking: past purchases, browsing history, location, and yes, whether you are the shop owner. Searching your own keywords while logged in is like grading your own exam. You need an unbiased view.
Method 1: The manual check (free, 5 minutes)
- Open a private/incognito browser window.
- Go to etsy.com without logging in.
- Search your main keyword, exactly as a shopper would type it (for example, “funny cat sticker”).
- Scroll through the results and look for your listings. Note which page they appear on.
Check your top 3 to 5 keywords, not just one. A listing can rank on page 1 for one phrase and page 6 for another.
Method 2: eRank’s Rank Checker (free tool)
If you would rather not scroll through pages manually, eRank offers a free Rank Checker tool. Connect your shop, enter a keyword, and it tells you exactly where each listing ranks. It is faster than the manual method and easier to repeat weekly.
How often should you check?
Once a week is plenty for most shops. Rankings shift as Etsy tests and as competitors update their listings, but daily checking will just drive you anxious. Pick a day, check your main keywords, write down the page numbers, and watch the trend. Log those numbers in the free Etsy Sales Tracker next to your sales so the trend is easy to see.
What counts as “good”?
Page 1 is the goal, but be realistic: most shoppers never go past page 2. If your main keyword has you on page 4 or beyond, that is a visibility problem, and it is fixable. It usually comes down to three things: your titles and tags not matching what shoppers type, weak click-through on your thumbnails, or low conversion telling Etsy your listing does not satisfy searchers.
What to do if you are not ranking
Do not panic and do not immediately buy ads. Ads on a listing that cannot rank organically usually just burn money. Start by finding out exactly which part of your shop is the bottleneck: visibility, clicks, or conversion.
